It’s a great week to be a Warrior! Congratulations to the Jr. High Lady Warrior Softball team on their 2A 2nd Place in State! The ladies are coached by Jeff Kamp, Justin Hillen and Amber Ewen. What an amazing week it was the girls were honored and an amazing pep rally on Thursday afternoon. Friday morning, they started out their morning by visiting the residence at Calhoun nursing and rehab and then had a team breakfast at the Riverdock before being escorted through town and around the schools with the firetruck as they headed out of town to play in Normal. After winning on Friday, they then advanced to the semifinals on Saturday. Rain delays and lightning made for a long day for these ladies, but they advanced to the championship where they took second place. I think it’s safe to say most everybody in Calhoun was either in Normal cheering them on or gathered around watching game changer. I think probably more people downloaded GameChanger on their phones over the last few days in Calhoun. These ladies definitely have a lot to be proud of. They are amazing athletes and amazing role models. I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve got to spend with them.
Congratulations to Mae Zipprich on receiving the State sportsmanship award.
Fall means a Fall favorite tradition in Calhoun Hardin American Legion Auxiliary will be doing their annual apple pie making on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Pies need to be ordered in advance call Mary Gilman 618-576-9306 or 618 946- 8444 or Margret Ann Ringhausen 618-576-2544 or 618-535-9285 pies must be picked on the 30th at the Hardin American Legion. The cost is $15 per pie. These pies are amazing. I like to cook one fresh that day and save one by putting it in the freezer and bringing it out at Thanksgiving. It’s also really something to see all of them together, making the pies and working up the apples. I look forward to this every year.

The week after the fair when I didn’t get my column in. I didn’t get to tell everyone how sorry I was to hear about the passing of Chris Nichols. Chris was a great guy. I got to know him through his real estate business a little bit and through my job at Straight Home, but I’ve known his wife Nikki, her whole life as I remember when she was born. Chris and Nikki were a couple that was destined to be. I’m sorry their time together didn’t get to be longer, but in a short time they got to be together they fed a lot of love and faith into those years. Please keep Nikki and the kids in your prayers as they navigate through this next part of their life.
Please keep the Cindy Sievers family in your thoughts and prayers. Cindy passed away this week after a battle with cancer. Cindy was a person of strong faith that she shared with many others and was always willing to lift a hand to help anyone in need. To know her was a blessing. I think she made a difference in anyone’s life that knew her.
Please add little David Johnson to your prayers. He is the two month old son of Marcus and April Johnson he will soon begin chemotherapy for treatments for cancer. He is having more testing done and the remaining treatment plan is yet to be determined ! Please pray for this sweet baby and his parents and continue prayers for Isabel McGlaughin, Kiera Sievers, Kurt Roth, Connor Gilman,Diane Rose, Joyce Blumenberg, Billie Jo Eickmeyer, Sue Aderton, Kathryn Chapman and Lisa Watters.
