This Saturday, Oct. 25, , from 9 a.m.-noon, you may recycle your electronics at the Western Illinois Fairgrounds in Griggsville (516 S. Oak St.). For more information call 217-243-6221.
The Griggsville Estates will be sponsoring a pumpkin decorating contest this year. This event is open to everyone and will include a Junior Division and an Adult Division. Pumpkins are due to the Estates no later than Oct. 24. Please include an index card with your name, pumpkin description, and the charity of your choice for the proceeds. Pumpkins will be on display at the Estates from the 24-27, then displayed in the window at Rumor’s until the winner is announced Oct. 31. Entries will remain anonymous until after the contest and a donation cup will accompany each pumpkin.
The Haunted Hayride at the Western Illinois Fairgrounds will be held on the following days/times: Oct. 24 and 25 and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 from 7p.m.-10 p.m. After the hayride, stick around for snacks and try the new haunted corn maze! Oct. 25 only a free hayride for kids ages 7 and under, with one free guardian, will be offered from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Trunk or Treat will also be held Oct. 25only beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission onto the grounds is $5 each, which includes, or $10 to enter the Haunted Hayride. Additional trips on the hayride are an additional $5.
GP-PTO will be hosting “Breakfast with a Boo!” fundraiser this Saturday (10/25) from 8:00am-11am in the Griggsville School cafeteria and gym. There will be a free-will donation pancake breakfast and bake sale located in the cafeteria. At 9:30am, there will be a costume contest. Bounce houses, an obstacle course, free face painting, games, crafts for all! Don’t miss out on this fun event!
GP’s annual Halloween parade will be held Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. If area businesses would like to participate in passing out store-bought, individually packaged, nut-free treats/candy, please plan for approximately 160 students. If the weather is nice, the students will parade uptown. If the weather is too cold or rainy, the parade will be moved to the high school gym. An announcement will be made the day of the parade.
Trunk or Treat in Perry will be held Oct. 31 from 6 p.m-8 p.m. Children in costumes can collect goodies from participants parked west of the bandstand on Main Street. (Note: This does not take the place of regular door-to-door trick-or-treating in Perry.)
The City’s Beautification Committee is currently taking donations for the Griggsville Veterans Memorial Park to be completed by spring of 2026. Please contact City Hall with any questions and let’s honor those who served our country.
