This past Monday, we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. Dr. King was born in 1929 in Atlanta, GA. He became one of the most influential leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Happy Birthday, Dr. King!
North Pike District Library has a workday scheduled at the Perry Branch this Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Anyone able to do some heavy lifting or willing to get dirty is invited to join in. Call Kimber at (217) 833-2633 for more information.
The Golden Eagle Honor Guard will be holding a fundraiser at the Perry Middle School building Saturday, Jn. 24 during the eighth grade regional games. Serving will begin at 9:30 a.m. (first basketball game begins at 10 a.m. and will end at 12:30 p.m, or when sold out. If you don’t plan to attend a game, stop by and order a carry-out to take home! The following food items will be available: single cinnamon roll – $3; pan of four cinnamon rolls – $10; gourmet beef hot dog and chips – $5; pulled pork sandwich and chips – $6. Please note the regular concession stand will be open with drinks, candy and popcorn.
Only a week and a half left of the Logan Agri-Service Veterans Memorial Park fundraiser! Logan Ag will donate three cents per gallon of gas from all retail sales (Griggsville site only) to the Veterans Memorial Park being built in uptown Griggsville. This event will end Jan. 31.
The City of Griggsville is currently selling bricks as a fundraiser for the Veterans Memorial Park. Forms are available on the City’s website at www.griggsville-il.org. Bricks are $125 each and will consist of three lines that are fourteen characters per line. Bricks will be sold until March 31. Be sure to get your form filled out and turned in soon. The Griggsville-Perry School District is offering a Stem Exploration After-School Program the first and thirdWednesdays of the month (Feb 4, Feb 18, Mar 4, Mar 18, Apr 1, and Apr 15) from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Attend one or all sessions, but advance registration is required. This program is open to students in grades fifth through eighth and will focus on science and tech activities, as well as career exploration. For more information, email [email protected].
GPHS Homecoming 2026 is set for Feb. 7! This year’s theme is “Let the Games Begin.” Following is the Homecoming schedule: noon – GP After Prom begins serving pulled pork meal for a freewill donation. 1 p.m. – JV tipoff vs. Bushnell Prairie City in Nichol Gymnasium with the GPMS Color Guard performing at halftime. Directly following the JV game will be the varsity tipoff vs BPC with the Tornado cheerleaders performing at halftime. Homecoming Coronation will be at 6:30pm with the Homecoming dance to follow from 7-10 p.m. Make plans to be in the Nic Feb. 7 to celebrate Homecoming!
