We are excited and getting ready for our St. John’s annual egg hunt here in Kampsville Saturday, April 1, beginning at 1 p.m. In addition to the egg hunt, kids will receive prizes. We have refreshments and a lot of fun. I wish I could tell you how long this has actually been going on, but I can tell you this. I moved here from Hardin where I was raised in 1986 and it was already well established by then. These are the kind of traditions that warm my heart. It ended with Peg Sibley taking it over from my dear friend who used to head up. When she began her battle with cancer, and then after her passing, I took over for her. But it is definitely a community event as we all get involved whether you’re a member of our church or not. But the members of our church, even though we’re small, are pretty mighty when it comes to giving. Also huge thank you to our Sons of the American Legion who also generously donate every year for this. I’m not gonna say this person’s name because I don’t like to put people’s name in my column if I don’t have permission but just to show you how wonderful Calhoun is I was standing at the Northside the other afternoon getting my Pepsi, and a fellow customer reached over and handed me money and said “ this is for the egg hunt.” it takes a lot to get things done and I certainly don’t mind heading it up but let me tell you. I absolutely don’t do it alone because there are good people out there. Always willing to lend a hand in any way.
Mark your calendars for the Inaugural Rick Smith Memorial Derby April 25 at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds with 80’s Concert featuring Big Guns. The cost for the derby and the concert is $20.
