What a whirlwind of a weekend…LITERALLY! There were many reports of high winds, possible tornadoes, and heavy rain this last Friday. Many area residents were without power for several days, my household included. I’m not sure how many times I attempted to flip a light switch on while holding a flashlight in my hand! I have not heard of any injuries currently, just lots of tree and property damage. If you get the opportunity, be a good neighbor/community member and help if it’s needed. This is truly a time when “it takes a village.” Thanks to all first responders, firemen, tree service workers and Ameren linemen for their help these last few days.
Make plans to attend the Griggsville-Perry Elementary Art Show TONIGHT from 5pm-7pm in the elementary library in the Griggsville school building. The show is entitled “We All Swim Together,” and if it’s like any other GP art show, it will be fabulous! Lots of artwork made by elementary students will be on display and ready for viewing. Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to GP senior, Emoree Stauffer, on being chosen as GPHS’ Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen! Emoree participated in a scholarship essay contest along with other area high school Good Citizens. She was awarded second place for her essay and was honored at the DAR banquet this past Sunday. Way to go, Emoree, and much deserved!
Perry Town Cleanup Day will be on April 24th. The City of Griggsville will hold Townwide Cleanup Days on April 29th, 30th and May 1st. Be sure to take advantage of these days and get your properties cleaned up for summer!
Eagle Valley Bank is sponsoring a free community shred event at their Griggsville (108 West Quincy St.) and Bluffs (115 N. Bluffs St.) locations this Saturday from 8am-11am. Bring your old bank statements, medical records, tax documents, and more and let Eagle Valley Bank help you safely and securely dispose of them.
GFL Environmental is hosting Pike County Cleanup Day set for May 2nd from 8am-12pm. This event is for residents of Pike County. You will be allowed to deposit one car or pick up load of trash for free. (No trailers.) Residents will be required to show ID for proof of residence. Call 217-833-2732 with questions or visit gflenv.com. The drop-off site is Hickory Ridge Landfill Facility (32246 375th Street, Baylis, IL. Acceptable materials include: municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, cardboard, paper and newsprint, aluminum cans, plastic, metals, furniture.
