Congratulations to all those graduating this week or who have recently graduated! Whether you know someone being promoted to high school, graduating high school, college, and even the tiniest of graduates in PreK, be sure to tell them how proud you are of them. They’ve reached a milestone and need your support to move on to the next step. Wishing the graduates and their families a safe week of celebrating!
Be sure to find a local cemetery service to attend next Monday, Memorial Day, to honor and remember the fallen veterans of our military. They fought for the freedoms you have today. After you’ve paid your respects at the cemetery, the GP Snack Pack Committee will host a fish fry from 11am-2pm at the Griggsville American Legion. It will be for a free will donation. Make plans to stop in and enjoy some fish while supporting a great cause!
There will be an electronic waste disposal event on May 30th from 9am-12pm at the Pike County Senior Center (220 W. Adams Street, Pittsfield). Items that will be accepted include computers, cell phones, tablets, TV’s, DVD players, printers, copiers and batteries. Other electronics accepted will be small home appliances, audio equipment, gaming consoles, and wearable tech.
Detroit United Methodist Church will host a summer Bible study beginning June 9, at 6pm and go through July 21. The study is titled “Called” and will focus on discovering God’s purpose and calling in everyday life through the study of Scripture.
An eight-week Bible study exploring the life and faith of King David will also begin June 9 at 10am at the Pioneer Express in Perry. Everyone is welcome! For information on either study, please contact Pastor Robb at [email protected].
As we look to next Monday, it’s not just a day off work. Memorial Day began as Decoration Day in 1868. It was created to honor Union soldiers who died in the Civil War and later evolved into a national day of remembrance for all U.S. military personnel who died in service. Commander-in-Chief, John A. Logan, of the Grand Army of the Republic issued General Order Number 11 designating May 30th as a memorial day “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land.” (www.loc,gov)
