It’s a beautiful time of the year. Many of us are working in the gardens, the fruit in the orchards or watching the maturing corn or beans in the fields.
Butch Friedel has been picking fruit, and some garden products and has them available in the Friedel Store in Batchtown. There are many opportunities to purchase garden products at local markets, and from the orchards in the area. The Eilerman Family Farm, north of Batchtown are just a few of the places to buy fruits, and vegetables.
Haleigh Cranmer graduated May 9th from SIUE with a degree in Criminal Justice. Haleigh Cranmer and Brennen Grimes are engaged to be married on July 18, 2026 in Batchtown followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hardin.
Mackenzie Cranmer was accepted into the University of Tennessee to obtain her PHD. Her parents, Anne Marie, and Aaron Johnson, and grandparents Kenny and Shelly took her to the University. All enjoyed the trip, and got the opportunity to see Mackenzie’s new school.
Bryan and Lisa Lumpkin, and children Connor, Madison, and Carter came home to see Kenny and Bette Eilerman. They all went to church together at St. Barbara’s Church, had dinner, and watched the kids play outdoors.
Ben and Amy Schatzle, and children Ian and Alice visited Lindy and Matha Bick at their home in Batchtown Saturday.
They attended the Day in the Park at Brussels. Ben makes metal flower ornaments for the yard and had various designs and sizes for sale. Paige Pohlman showed and sold her painting, Taylor Sievers had a novel she has written, and a book on flowers to plant in the garden, and leather purses she has made to sell, Jeff Tepen had jars of honey to sell, Eberlin’s had handy work, embroidery, and other artistic items to sell, Rick Eilerman had a display of wooden items, and furniture he made for sale. Laci Tepen from Tepen Hollow had several remedies for health and beauty to sell. The art work from the schools were also on display. and food stands were available for those wanting to eat, and drink, or sit and talk. It was a nice day in the Park. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone come back again next year to the day in the park.
Friday, Irene Wallendorf needed a new cellular phone. She and son Bernie found what she needed, made the trip to US Cellular in Alton, and got the phone, and they did some other shopping too.
Jeremy and Angie Russell and daughters Zoe and Sadie went camping at Loserville, Mo. over the weekend.
Vera Ann Klockenkemper’s company this week was Garret and Angie Hayn., and Terry Hayn.
Linda Russell’s company this week were Steve and Cindy Mazorus, and Hayden. They mowed the grass, visited, and ate supper together.
Barb Margherio is recovering from a recent surgery on her leg. She earlier had back surgery. We wish her good health and a complete recovery at her home.
The Batchtown Post Office Hours are Monday through Friday from 12:15 – 4:15 p.m. Sat. hours are 12:15 -2:15 p.m. Postage stamps are going up on July 12 to 82cents. Be sure to buy the forever stamps.
A Diaper Shower was held for Morgan, and Maddy Baalman Saturday evening at the Batchtown Tavern. Good, well, and happy times are our wishes on the arrival of the new baby.
The Brussels Music in the Park will be this Friday night, 6/19/26 Be sure you bring your lawn chairs and be ready to listen to Behavior Intervention. Food is available. Future performances are, 7/3/26 Highway 67, and 7/17/26 Backwoods Burden. Come and listen and have fun!
The Batchtown Cornerstone Church Sunday Service is at 10:45 a.m. The Bible Class is at 9 a.m. every Wednesday.
The three Church picnics will be held at St. Barbara’s in Batchtown on Sat. and Sun. July 25th., and 26th. The Sunday dinner menu will include fried chicken, beef, dumplings, dressing, mashed potatoes, w/ gravy, slaw, and pie.
The Meppen Picnic will be the first Saturday and Sunday, August 1st, and 2nd, and the Brussels Picnic will be Saturday and Sunday, August, 8th, and 9th. Mark your calendar and plan on coming for the delicious food, and entertainment.
The 8 a.m. Sunday Mass is at St. Barbara’s in Batchtown from June through December. Everyone is welcome.
