The North Pike District Library will be hosting Quincy Children’s Museum at Perry Park tomorrow from 9am-10:30am. A variety of toys and activities for kids of all ages will be set up for the morning. Be prepared for some potentially messy fun! Breakfast will be served as well. This event is all part of the library’s “Read, White & Blue Summer” festivities.
The Griggsville Estates is working to create a special tribute video celebrating America’s 250th year of independence. This video will be displayed immediately following the fireworks show at The Estates on July 4th. To help make this project possible, coordinators are seeking donations to help cover the cost of the fireworks. Every contribution – large or small – helps create a meaningful tribute that honors our freedoms, our veterans, and the American spirit. If you would like to contribute, please send a message to Lori or Grace, or stop by The Estates.
The Bright Star Parish will host two Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs this summer, offering children opportunities for fun, learning, and spiritual growth. A community VBS program will take place in Detroit from July 6-10, from 6:30pm-8pm each evening. Titled “The Story of Creation,” the program will explore God’s creation with an emphasis on stars, light and the power of God’s word.
The second VBS program will be held at Perry United Methodist Church from July 27-30, from 6pm-8pm each evening. This program includes a light meal and features the theme “Families of the Bible,” highlighting stories of faith from scripture. Father’s Day is THIS Sunday! The first official celebration of Father’s Day was in 1910. Sonora Smart Dodd, raised by a widowed Civil War veteran, championed the first statewide celebration in Washington on June 19th. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge urged states to observe the holiday. Retailers and the tie industry promoted it heavily during the Great Depression to boost sales. In 1972, President Richard Nixon finally signed legislation designating the third Sunday in June as a permanent national holiday. This is the second year my siblings and I won’t see our dad on Father’s Day since his passing. Although that never really gets any easier, it seems there is always a sweet little reminder somewhere that shows us Dad is not far away. Whether it be a foxtail weed growing along the roadside or the smell of freshly cut grass, we celebrate and remember our dad in those beautiful moments. Be present when spending time with your dad this weekend.
