I’ve had people ask so I will explain why the change of date? Originally we used to do the 4th of July but for more than a few years we had to move from that date due to floodwaters. When we would move it, we moved it to August, it then became easier just to do it in August and our fireworks company offers us a huge discount for not having it on the actual 4th of July. The past few years the day in August has gotten harder and harder with other commitments being that day and with school starting that same week. So the committee decided to find a different day. We chose this weekend in July because it used to be the kickoff for picnic weekend with St Anselm’s starting this summer picnic season. We no longer have that picnic, but we decided that would be the best date for us to have our summer celebration! So mark your calendars and spend the evening of July 18 on the Illinois riverfront in Kampsville.
Calhoun Junior Fair Board hosted trivia night, Friday at Straight Home. The junior fair board helps with a lot of things at the county fair.
Great job to our neighbors down south Brussels on a successful art in the park on Saturday, the South Calhoun Public library puts this on and it’s just amazing to see the talent throughout our county. If you didn’t attend, it’s an annual event so make plans to do it next year. You won’t be disappointed.
