The day is amazing. A light rain yesterday, but today it is 50 degrees, and perfect for getting outdoors, and taking a walk and enjoying the beauty of the day. It is Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, the beginning of Lent. Many of us observe this as a holy time observing forty days until Easter Sunday.

GP’s Homecoming 2026 was a success all around as both the JV and Varsity Tornado squads handily snagged two victories over the Bushnell Prairie City Spartans! The snow and cold weather kept some of us snowbound within our roads and hollers. The main roads opened faster. All is getting back to being a normal commute. The sunshine and the higher temperatures are good. We’re all ready to be out and about. and are hoping for an early Spring.

Weather in this area is still changeable, making it hard to know what to wear from one day to the next. At least it stayed above freezing and by end of week up to 49.

Our Village suffered a loss this weekend. Everyone’s favorite “good ole guy” Brent “Whitey” Laux passed away.

The City of Griggsville is selling bricks to help raise funds for the Veterans Memorial Park. Forms are available on the City’s website at www.griggsville-il.org. It was a very wet and snowy week. The heavy snow was hard to drive through for workers, The kids enjoyed the snow and playing, and sledding. Our Road Dept. has been working hard to keep our roads clear. We thank them for their hard work. Another light snow is predicted for the weekend.
