Our Ferry as I write this is currently open. They were able to open briefly on Saturday but then ice coming down the river and the drop in temperatures caused them to have to close again . They were able to re-open on Sunday and hopefully be able to stay open. Thank you Eric Weber for keeping everyone updated.
On Thursday evening many gathered to show their respects to our beloved Redeye Schumann in the Kampsville Gym . He was laid right under the basketball rim where he spent so much of his time. Everyone looked through pictures and reminisced . On Friday morning he received a much deserved Military send off. With his daughter Becky playing Taps. His grandson John and his granddaughter Sarah spoke wonderfully about him. His funeral was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was baptized and attended church for 92 years. As Mayor Schumann took his final ride from St. John’s to St. Anslem cemetery with his procession following he took one last ride around Kampsville the town that he gave so much too and loved with all of his heart. He will be missed.
What a Week to be a Warrior! Monday night our 8th grade Warriors won Regionals! On Thursday or 7th grade Warriors traveled to Macon, Illinois to Win Class 2A 3rd in State!! Of course “being Calhoun” everybody made sure this team knows they have the best fans around! Tuesday morning the Elementary/Jr. High had a morning “Clap Out” for the boys as they walked the halls. I had a parent say her little one is in kindergarten and he came home and said “that was so awesome! I’m going to play basketball when I get big” Little ones looking up to older ones, that’s what it’s all about. On Thursday the entire Unit 40 participated in an amazing Pep Rally. That afternoon the boys were escorted out of town across the bridge by Sheriff Heffington. With a caravan full of decorated cars following along honking and everyone cheering for them. All the businesses got involved and decorated up and sent out well wishes to all the team.
Thank you to Village Trustee Amanda Johnson for decorating up Kampsville.
Rachael Friedel hosted a “Watch Party” for the seventh and eigth grade St. Norbert’s students and they enjoyed cheering on the team. Many of the local businesses streamed the game live so fans who couldn’t go still got to enjoy the game and cheer the boys on.
Upon returning to Calhoun with their medals and trophy they enjoyed going to Straight Home they kept their kitchen open late for them.
Congratulations boys and Coach Rod Hart, Coach Zipprich, and Coach Benz.
The Village Campground got some trim work on trees this week. Thanks to some hard work from Rob Parameter, Mark Becker and Simon Taylor. They took advantage of the warmer temperatures last Wednesday and helped to get the Campground ready for the upcoming camping season. It will be here before you know it.
Tony and Traci Gress were honored at surprise party this past Saturday at Straight Home. They are celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary on Valentines Day.
Kurt Roth was very excited to receive 55 cards for his birthday from the students at St. Norbert’s. His sister Kathy made sure to read each one of them to him before hanging them up in his room. He would like to give a special thank you to the students he absolutely loved them.
The CILA residents are still unable to get out much due to Covid. They would also love cards. There are seven residents there. The Address is: 101 Aderton Dr., Hardin, IL 62047.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Jake Botterbush Friday morning. If you had the pleasure of knowing Jake you know that no matter what health problem life handed him he fought hard and with a smile on his face. He was always joking with me when I saw him. But I think most people would agree that smile on his face all the time was usually because of his little girl Libby who he adored with all his heart. Please pray for comfort for his wife Elizabeth and daughter Libby as they are faced with this difficult loss.
Please add to your prayers Betty Grissom who fell and broke her hip and had surgery also. Please continue prayers for Shelly Pohlman, Eileen Gardner, Amy Roth, Joyce Blumenberg, Darren Kress, Zel Blumenberg, Elmer Lehr, Joe Gress, Jim Hill, Raymond Sievers, Isabel McGlaughin, Kurt Roth, Jerry Crader, Kathryn Chapman, Bob Banghart, Bruce Williams, Justin Williams and Greg Becker
