Her party with friends included craft projects and playing outside, later her mom served refreshments and birthday cake. On Monday evening, a family birthday party was held with everyone enjoying cake and ice cream. Grandparents are Don and Nancy Moennig of Brussels and Denny and Carol Rose of Golden Eagle. Many more “happy ones” Claire!

My visitors and helpers on Friday were Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City, Mo. We met at St. Matthew Cemetery where Dennis sprayed and cleaned the tombstones of grass and then we put fall flowers on graves of our loved ones. Then to my house for a light lunch before heading outdoors to clean my long flower bed of dead flowers, grass, etc. Turned out to be a 3-hour project with cleaning and disposing of everything. Afterwards, Shelly and I drove to Hagen Orchard for apples and pumpkins and a nice visit with Debbie Kamp. I did prepare a steak dinner for them for all their hard work. Many thanks again to both of them.
On Sunday John, Julie and Caleb Carnes of Edwardsville drove to the county. That morning John had smoked and grilled pork steaks, brats and chicken for dinner later at the home of Julie’s dad, Francis Toppmeyer. John then came over to help me with cleaning more flower beds that afternoon. Enjoyed the beautiful blooms all summer, but now it’s time to dispose of the dead plants. He also mowed and accomplished other outdoor tasks before heading to Toppmeyer’s for supper. Julie, Mary and Lisa had also prepared food for their dinner. Present was Lisa and Ed Heffington, Emily Nichols and family, Francis Toppmeyer; Mark, Mary, Maggie and Max Toppmeyer; and the Carneses. Many thanks to them for sending me a delicious carry-out. Mark, Francis and helpers were busy harvesting crops that day. With the weather being so nice, the farmers are busy harvesting corn and soybeans every day and even into the late evening hours.
Jim Held of Alton drove up Sunday morning to spend the day with his mom, Marie Held; and two sisters, Sharon McLeod of Billings, Montana, and Barb Ward of Decatur. He had gone by Duke’s Bakery and brought delicious donuts for them all to enjoy. Also visiting with them was Bob and Bonnie Held and Eric Held. Sounds like they all had a great day together.
Glad to hear “The Barefoot Restaurant” in Hardin opened last weekend. Their hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Heard they have been really busy the last couple weekends. Hope to stop by next time I’m in Hardin to dine there. Best Wishes to them on their opening!
