The summer church picnics have arrived. This weekend, July 26 and 27, is the Batchtown Picnic at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Saturday night, the picnic begins after the 4 p.m. mass with Turtle Soup, a well-known picnic tradition, beef sand, chicken salad sandwich hot dogs, and choices of cake, and. tea, and coffee. Outdoors on the grounds, fish sandwiches, ice cream cones, snow cones, soda, and beer are available. The Sunday dinner includes fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, dumplings, slaw, sliced tomatoes, and homemade pie, with choice of tea, coffee, or water.
The games are fun to play for all ages. They are I-Dod-it, Bingo, Chuck O Luck, Duckpond, Plinko, and Wiffle Ball Toss. The Bingo Stand is a game of luck we all enjoy playing, There are always nice prizes to choose from. Come and try your luck.
The Country Store has fresh garden vegetables, fruits, canned jellies, canned vegetables, baked items, and handmade, crafted items for sale. Numerous items will be available. A basket raffle with a variety of items will be available for you to see and to take chances on. The Altar Society quilt is also available for you to see, and to take raffle chances on in hopes of winning the handmade quilt. Come and enjoy yourself. The country western Band the Crypkickers will be playing at the picnic. The picnic will close this year at 5 p.m. There will not be an evening meal. We look forward to seeing you at the Batchtown picnic.
The Meppen Picnic is next weekend, Saturday and Sunday Aug. 2 and 3. The Brussels Picnic is Saturday and Sunday Aug. 9 and 10. They will have the same menu, and games available, and music on the grounds. They will also not be serving an evening meal, and will close at 5 p.m. We look forward to seeing you at all our Blessed Trinity Picnics.
Congratulations to Ethan and Elizabeth Harbert of Pana, Il. on the birth of their son Walker Moses Harbert. He was born on April 11, 25. He weighed 8 lbs. and was 2l inches long. Baby Walker has an older sister, Rorie Grace, who is two years old. She celebrated her birthday on July 29. Happy birthday Rorie. The maternal grandparents are Wayne and Lisa Vogel of Golden Eagle.
Annie, Addy, Nora and little Henry were visitors at Fred and Gina Rose home Friday. They then went to Raging Rivers Water Park and had a very good time in the water. Henry’s dog stayed with Fred and Gina while they were gone. They all enjoyed their day.
The Steubenville Youth Catholic Retreat was held June 27, 28, 29 on the College Campus. Some of the Calhoun Youth attending from the Jerseyville Youth Group were Joseph, John Paul, Michael, and David Vogel. They are the sons of Wayne and Lisa Vogel. There was a group of teens attending from Calhoun County this weekend. We’ll share their youth day experiences next week.
There was a nice crowd at Game Day at St. Anselm’s Church Sunday, July 20. Angie Russell, and daughters Zoe, and Sadie Russell attended. It’s a nice way to have fun and to see friends, and relatives.
Happy birthday to Marilyn Klockenkemper, and her daughter, Rosemary Barczewski who are celebrating their birthdays on the same day, July 30. Cindy Russsell will celebrate her birthday on July 31. We wish you all a happy birthday, and a wonderful year.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club met at the Fill Inn Station for their regular July Meeting on Wednesday, July 16. Members attending were Jean Tepen, Elaine Titus, Marcy Klockenkemper, Barbara Margherio, and Marilyn Klockenkemper. They discussed and made plans for Game Day. It will be held on Sunday, August 24 at the K.C. Hall in Hardoin. The Doors open at 11 a.m. and games start at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. The lunch menu is Chicken Salad Sandwich, Dumplings, Hot Dogs, Home-Made Pie, and Coffee, Tea, and Water. Everyone is welcome. There will be 20 Games for $20.00. Baskets will also be available to take chances on. In review, we look forward to seeing you on Game Day, Sunday, August 24, at the K.C. Hall. Doors open at 11 a.m. See you then. The proceeds from Game Day are used for the Batchtown Woman’s Clubs Projects held throughout the year.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society Monthly Meeting was held Thursday evening, July 24. Many topics were discussed including the Food Pantry, Clothing Store, and needs expressed by those using their services in our community.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society is open every Wed. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except the fifth Wednesday of the month. They will be closed Wednesday, July 30, the fifth Wednesday.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society Helps with Rent, Utilities, Mortgage, GED. And help with other Agencies. Call the volunteer hot line at 1-618-310-1141 for assistance.
The Cornerstone Church in Batchtown has Sunday Services at 10:45 a.m., and Bible Class every Wed. at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
The Calhoun Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They serve nutritious meals to all. Everyone is welcome.
Come in and visit with friends and get to know the other seniors attending.
